2024 December Update for Virtual Swanage
The past 12 months have been very busy for us at Virtual Swanage, which is in its 28th year of promoting Swanage and Purbeck online.
We have spent many hours working on search engine enhancements to the website to improve search visibility across all the major search engines and their ever-changing requirements.
Changes have been made to reduce the size of pages and files, making them faster to load and easier to use for our visitors on desktop computers and mobile devices.
We took steps in November to reduce duplicate content from multiple events, and this has increased the number of events we promote that are listed in Google, Bing, and other search engines.
The photo gallery section had an issue with duplicate content with events such as the annual Swanage Carnival having multiple photos with the same names covering several years.
We resolved this by updating all 1531 photos with new titles and descriptions to make the photos easier to find.
We also tried to update many of the older photos which where lower resolution to updated high resolution versions but unfortunately we have not been able to obtain the original prints or images as the owners are no longer with us.

Visitor Stats
Visitor stats for the year to date are 1,310,876 views from 842,985 visitors and this is slightly down from 846,091 visitors for 2023.
Some of this decline could be due to the launch of the “Swanage official tourism website” by Swanage council on the Visit Dorset website.
Virtual Swanage website has much to offer both visitors to the area and locals with free business listings, events listings and accommodation listings with both free basic and paid advanced listing options at only £40 per year compared to £305 per year on the Swanage council tourism website.
